I want to understand EVERYTHING, and these paintings are my way of doing so. They’re fueled by a restless pursuit of innovation, variety and experimentation, and by an innate desire to construct meaning from this absurd world we occupy— through the making of little pictures.

At their core lies an interest in speed and overstimulation, in the collision of images and ideas and the hyper-kinetic “too-muchness” of it all. Nothing is out of bounds. Only through the act of painting do creative impulses and gut feelings coalesce into concrete forms and strategies, revealing subjects, motifs, themes and connections I could not have foreseen or planned for.

The thrill of discovery, of creating something surprising, defines the entire project (if I can call it that). The resulting body of work is comprised of one-offs, inside jokes, pop cultural swipes, historical allusions, reactionary U-turns, echoes, responses and free-associations—all vying for attention and ping-ponging across the walls like a frenetic codex. Each painting functions as a universe unto itself and as another layer in an ever-expanding supersystem. If I’ve done my job, the sum and the parts become indistinguishable.
